With rumours about Arda Guler leaving Real Madrid, he definitely won't be going to Liverpool if Dominik Szoboszlai has anything to say about it.

The Hungary captain got in a surprise spat with Guler during a 3-0 defeat to Turkey, and made sure to hit the youngster where it hurts on social media post-match, only to get bitten back.

Turkey completed a 3-0 win in the Nations League play-offs, downing Hungary 6-1 on aggregate in humbling fashion.

Real Madrid’s Guler scored the second goal of the match and during the win he went after Szoboszlai with a shushing gesture.

The Liverpool midfielder seemed shocked at the act from a man four years his junior, and could only laugh as Hungary said goodbye to League A and were relegated to the competition’s second tier.

However, picking up his phone after the game, Szoboszlai saw a post from Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport of the moment he got shushed, and responded in surprise fashion.

The 24-year-old wrote the numbers 1088’, which refers to the number of minutes Guler has played for Madrid this season.

Guler arrived from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 with a reputation as Turkey’s next generational talent.

Yet games have been hard to come by, with Carlo Ancelotti rarely fielding him in his first season, making just 12 appearances.

This term that number has upped to 31, but 21 of those have been off the bench, which is particularly surprising given Real’s midfield injury issues.

Yet Guler wasn't having any of the slander, replying to Szoboszlai on Instagram with a story post which read: "This guy is a joke.

"Isn't six goals enough to shut you up?"

Guler’s frustrations with his game time have made news in both Spain and Turkey, and his country’s captain and manager both commented on the situation during the international break.

"He's an exceptional footballer. We all know his talent and what he can contribute," said coach Vincenzo Montella.

"It's a well-known and generally accepted trend that players with a continuing presence at their clubs tend to be called up to the national team. But we must be understanding of Arda."

Inter Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu added: "I don't know what his situation is at Real Madrid, that's why I don't want to get too involved in this situation because in the end he knows more, although of course I want and believe he deserves to play more minutes.

"Arda is a very important player, he's like a little brother whom I love very much. I would like him to come and play with us, although I don't know if that's true."

There are strong rumours in Spain that Guler could well spend next season on loan at Inter, with Madrid clearing out the squad space and wages to exercise a buy-back for Como’s Nico Paz.

As for Szoboszlai, the Liverpool midfielder has played 2889 minutes for his club compared to Guler’s 1088, also registering seven goals and five assists to the Turk’s three goals and five assists.

His Hungary are in somewhat of a tailspin, though, winning just once in eight games after a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign.

Speaking post-match, Szoboszlai said: "The team needs to get together, I include myself, and come up with something for the summer that will take us forward, which will help us in the World Cup qualifiers.

"We need players who want to play in a World Cup again after forty years, and then we can make history again. This is the plan."
