talkSPORT's Danny Murphy left Jim White aghast when admitting he wouldn't trade his Community Shield win for an Olympic gold medal.

France superstar and World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe said it would be a 'dream' for him to represent his country at the games.

But former Liverpool midfielder Murphy doesn't hold the Olympics in as high regard, even though winning gold is eyed as one of sport's greatest prizes.

When asked on White and Jordan if he would cherish a gold medal, he said: "No, I wouldn't care less, most footballers would tell you the same."

And when questioned on Mbappe's 'dream' admission, he replied: "What? Ok, you might get the odd exception, is this the same footballers who are whinging about playing too many games?

"You can't have it one way... the reality is, you're playing for Real Madrid, you think if GB had a team, Madrid are going to let Jude Bellingham go and play? You think that's going to be something they want him coming back injured from?"

Host Jim White later asked if he would swap his League Cup medal with Liverpool in 2003 for Olympic gold, but Murphy said: "Absolutely no chance, no chance. It doesn't mean anything in football.

"The Olympics for many years in football was a chance for the South American teams to play their young superstars, the U21/23 teams and go over and play some football."

And when questioned if he'd do the same with his Community Shield medal from 2001, once again he replied with a definitive: "No."

"Oh, what?!" White responded in disbelief, clapping his hands and launching his chair back as the pundit offered a wry smile.

Murphy did explain his reasoning though: "We beat Man United in front of 80,000 people, so no chance."

But when White asked him if he knew of the medal's whereabouts, the former Liverpool man laughed and said: "I ain't got a clue."

Team GB have not fielded a men's team since the London 2021 games and the women's side failed to qualify for a spot in Paris.

Brazil men won in Tokyo 2020 but won't defend their crown as they too did not qualify, with Canada women arriving as the reigning champions.
