Leeds United linked Ayala wife comments on contract situation

29-year-old Daniel Ayala first came to prominence with a 2007 move from Sevilla’s C side to Liverpool’s Under-18 set-up. He failed to crack into the Reds first team in a sustained way, featuring just five times before a move to Norwich City in 2011 and then to Middlesbrough in 2014. It is at Boro that he’s made a name for himself but it is a time coming to an end. Now his wife, Hannah, has spoken about his contract situation in a story carried by the Teesside Live website.

The Spaniard will be one of seven players at the Riverside who will be out of contract at the end of this season, Ayala being the most high profile of that septet. In his time at the club, Ayala has made 216 appearances and scored 23 goals whilst providing seven assists. 25 of those appearances and two of those goals have come this season in a campaign blighted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

His wife, as reported by Teesside Live, gives an insight into his contract situation with Boro and why the couple moved back south during the current situation with coronavirus.

Obviously a question that she was expecting was asked of her – whether her husband would be staying at Boro. To this, she replied: “I knew this question would be the most asked, but at the moment we don’t know anything yet.”

The move south, Hannah is from Hertfordshire, might have sparked some rumours of an impending move which is something she moved quickly to allay. She added: “It’s no secret Daniel’s contract ends this summer, but that wasn’t the reason we left our house up north. We had outgrown the house so we decided we would come back down south and look for a new house maybe closer to Yarm if Daniel gets a new contract.

Ayala has been linked extensively with Leeds United, a side looking set for an important nine-game sprint to end the season which could lead to Premier League promotion. It could also be a promotion where the Whites lose Brighton loanee Ben White to more prestigious and established Premier League sides.

Many voices are saying that Boro defender Ayala is a player on the Elland Road radar. He played his last game for Middlesbrough on New Year’s Day and has been out with an injury since. As it stands, there has been no formal noise about the Spaniard signing for Leeds and the most concrete words, on his contract situation, seem to have come from his wife.
