Blackburn hoping to seal new deal for starlet after advanced talks

Blackburn Rovers could be a club that sees the vultures circling Ewood Park this summer as they look to cherrypick some of the Lancashire club’s talent. Already Leeds United and Liverpool are said to be angling for a deal with young winger Luke Brennan, something we wrote about in more detail on The72. Now it appears that Rovers are closing ranks and trying to rush through a new deal for rated youngster Dan Pike according to Football Insider.

Pike is an 18-year-old right-back who has represented Rovers 53 times (two goals/eight assists) as an Under-18. He has also shown that he is more than capable of stepping up in age groups at Ewood Park, having featured for the Under-23s four times – including three games this season.

He has been integral to the success of the Under-18s this season. He has featured in 11 Under-18 Premier League games as well as being an ever-present in their impressive run in the FA Youth Cup. The highlight of this run was a 4-1 drubbing of Arsenal’s well-thought-of Under-18 outfit – a game in which he set up one of the goals.

Football Insider says that Blackburn are in “advanced talks” with Dan Pike who they term a “rising star.”  Article author, Wayne Veysey, writes that the Ewood Park outfit “are poised to hand the right-back, 18, his first professional contract as reward for his development.”

Referring to a ‘Rovers source’, Veysey goes on to write that a deal is close to being concluded and it is a deal that “is expected to run for three years.

Blackburn will be hoping that this is a straightforward deal to do so that they can get it over the line before the vultures stop circling and begin to land.
