Crawley Town's Corey Addai left fans in awe by stopping his side from conceding a wild own goal with incredible composure.

The League Two play-off semi-final first leg against MK Dons was certainly worth the wait having seen the kick-off delayed by an extra day owing to a postponement.

Liam Kelly netted his fifth of the campaign to put his side 1-0 in the opening five minutes following a superb run and finish into the bottom left-hand corner.

But it wasn't long before Kelly left his own goalkeeper chasing down an accidental effort on his own goal as he tried to send the ball back to him, only for it to take flight and head goal-bound.

Luckily for Kelly, Addai was alert to the mishit pass and dashed back to his goal line to stop the ball hitting the back of the net.

But fans have been left in amazement at just how the ex-Arsenal youth player stopped the ball and spared his teammate's blushes.

Instead of simply running and catching it, Addai ran to the ball before hooking it away from danger with his right foot and calmly passing it beyond the on-rushing MK Dons players.

"Corey Addai just did maybe the coolest thing I’ve ever seen on a football pitch," one fan wrote on X, reacting to the moment.

"Calm as you like from Corey Addai," another said.

A third, referring to the Crawley goalkeeper playing so high up the pitch, said: "This goalkeeper is so entertaining, spends more time as a RB (right-back) than in goal."

Kelly, who had his hands on his head as he watched his mishit pass fly towards goal, could be seen thanking his goalkeeper afterwards.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, player of the match Kelly smiled and said: "Luckily the big man in goal got me out of it."

Addai, who completed 17 dribbles in the first-half, reflected on his performance on talkSPORT Drive the following day and explained why he played in such a role.

"The way we want to play as a team is building up from the back and often I do come out my box and I do basically create another centre-back in possession to allow the team to have more control of the game, of the football," he said.

"But I think that the way the game was played last night, they didn't really press us so I had a load more space to go and step in into the pitch with, it was something that we worked on on the training ground.

"If they didn't press then I would step in and take a space, basically just drive up the pitch until we can see if we can pick a player off or if not, maybe play a forward pass and try and disrupt them that way."

Speaking on his excellent touch, he added: "I knew the ball was going wide but you don't want to defend a corner in that moment.

"As soon as the ball came back to me I just thought, 'Just get it back onto my right side where I can then maybe pick out a pass or obviously plant the ball forward.'

"It just happened that he pressed me, he slid in and I just thought there's a space behind him so I'll just take a touch past him and then I'll have way more time. I didn't think about it at the time, it just kind of happened."

Jay Williams then eased any nerves by adding another goal before the break to put Crawley 2-0 up, before Ronan Darcy netted a third as the Red Devils took one step closer to the final at Wembley.

Elsewhere, Doncaster beat Crewe on Monday in the other semi-final first leg with the second leg set for 10 May, while Crawley travel to Milton Keynes for their return fixture on 11 May.
